Smart kiddies

At the center are the three smart kiddies Kim, Flo, and Sam. In short video clips, they experience various situations involving digital media. Together with them, the children go on a journey of discovery, exploring the opportunities and risks of media use and examining their own habits.

In four consecutive teaching units, the topics include,

• becoming aware of one's own media usage,

• understanding the fascination of digital media,

• identifying potential risks and problematic usage,

• reflecting on emotions and needs in connection with media use, and

• developing rules together for a healthy and responsible use of media.

It is not about portraying digital media as inherently problematic. Instead, children are encouraged to assess their own usage behavior and learn to use digital media consciously and independently.

In order for smart kiddies to be permanently implemented in schools, teachers and school social workers are trained to become multipliers. In a practical training session, they learn about the concept and individual methods and practice their implementation.

After completing the qualification, they can independently conduct the teaching units at their school and also implement the accompanying parental work. The trained professionals are provided with the necessary materials and a detailed method manual.

Ideally, two individuals from one school participate in the qualification, such as a teacher and a school social worker. This allows the project to be implemented jointly and anchored in the school's media and prevention concept in the long term.

The Education Office supports primary schools in the Oberberg district in sustainably establishing smart kiddies at their schools. For this purpose, the Mediensuchtprävention NRW e.V. association offers multiplier training for teachers and school social workers.
