The Power Workshop
– Know why it sparks

Where does our electricity actually come from? How does an electric motor work? And how can a secure and sustainable energy supply be achieved? Students from grade 5 onwards explore these and many other questions in the Power Workshop at the LVR Industrial Museum Power Plant Ermen & Engels in Engelskirchen.

At varied experimental stations, they explore the basics of electricity generation, learn about different energy forms, and address the challenges of the energy transition. Whether generator, electric motor, hydropower, or power grid – scientific and technical connections are vividly and comprehensibly conveyed through hands-on experimentation. Interactive elements like the role-playing game "Blackout" also promote collaborative development of solution strategies and make the importance of a secure energy supply tangible.

The Power Workshop combines STEM education with an extraordinary learning location: the historic hydropower plant and turbine cellar of the LVR Industrial Museum. This links technical innovations, physical phenomena, and the history of energy supply in a unique way and provides fascinating insights into a topic that profoundly shapes our daily lives.
